Visa
Item difficult to reduce. Even if it’s sometimes possible to obtain a visa less expensively in a certain area, at the end of the day it remains an important expenditure.

The Belgian passport made life rather easy for me and in a number of countries a preliminary visa was not necessary.

Differences can thus add up. An example.

Extras
Make the most out of it as long as you are there: to be in Australia without seeing the Great Barrier Reef, not visiting the temples at Angkor, avoiding the Uyuni desert, not seeing Machu Picchu, watching without trying a bungee jump in New Zealand, etc…simply was not conceivable for me.

Not everything is possible, but a desirable minimum…

Conclusion
In fact, it wasn’t a bad idea to sell my car… For simple reference (and this seems to be average), I spent approximately 10,000 USD the first year, 8,000 USD the second and 6,000 USD the third.

Five years of work before leaving. Five years in which to save, intended in theory – like every good Belgian – to invest in bricks and mortar or four (or five for that price) wheels. Staying in Belgium and paying rent each month would have cost me a lot more.

A question of choice.
